WHAT IS
ABU-ROBOCON?
 Robocon is a robot contest which
is held among the Asia-Pasific Broadcasting
Union, ABU’s member countries.
As a
founder member, Turkish Radio-Television
Corporation has been participating ROBOCON, that
aims the cultural and technological development
and relationship between members, from the first
time in Tokyo, 2002.
The
university students, specializing engineering of
mechanics or electronics from member countries,
join this annual contest and try to construct
manuel and authomatic machines due to
Organizator Commitee, ABU Robocon Secreteriat’s
rules through the theme which is determined by
the hosting country, and represent their
countries by using their creativity and
technological abilities.
The
purpose of this hard contest is not only
improving technological and cultural
relations, but also set up friendship between
students and develop their engineering skills,
creativity ext.
In year
2003 Robocon realized on 24th of August,
in Bangkok, Thailand. The aim of this
contest was to shoot Takraw Balls into 9
baskets comprised of 3 nets in a triangular
shape to compete for points. A team was considered the winner when the balls are shot
into all baskets including 3 nets of centered
basket or when one team scores more point than
the opponent. The machines were prepared to play
Thailand Football, Takraw. And the team who
fills all the baskets was considered as
Space
Conqueror. | | |

ROBOCON TURKEY
After the
Domestic Contest held in Ankara, in 2002; the
winner team from Sabanci University Department
of Nature Sciences and Mechatronic Engineering
students competed on behalf of Turkey in Tokyo.
Although they could not get a degree, they did
their bests and represented our
country.
In year
2003,
23 teams from 8 universities joined the contest.
  
  
Prepared under supervision of the Turkish
Scientific and Technical Research Institution
(TUBITAK), 14 teams from Boðaziçi University,
Sabanci University, Yildiz Technical University,
Istanbul Technical University, Middle East
Tehnical University, Dokuz Eylul University and
Gazi university, took part in the Domestic
Contest of ABU Robocon 2003 “Takraw Space
Conqueror” in the capital city Ankara, on June
28, 2003.
To the results; the second runner
up has been the Middle East Technical
University’s team “La Resistance”, Best Artistic
Design Award went to Dokuz Eylul University’s
team “Smyrna”, Best Idea Award went to
Yildiz Technical University’s team “StarTech”,
Best Technology Award went to Sabanci
University’s team “Master of the Puppets” and the winner has been Dokuz Eylul University and
SMYRNA!!
The
members of the winner team Smyrna, are all
mechanical enginnering students at
Dokuz Eylul
University in Izmir and they
call themselves with the ancient name of Izmir;
